I know, I know money doesn’t make you happy, but if I were a billionaire, the heartaches would be much easier to handle. I’m sure of that. At this stage of my life, I want all of the comforts that money can buy with the least amount of friction as possible. I’ve taken a few shots in my lifetime, and I actually sat down an gave it some thought, visualized what it would be like to have a billion dollars.
First, I would of course pay off some small bills and get everything up to snuff as far as giving the relatives a bit of money to help them as well. And then I would take some time off to decide which direction I would go from there. I would want to invest a good portion to make certain I could be making my money work for me instead of vice verso. I would allocate some money to play in the stock market. Not much mind you, but enough to where I would log on to my computer and check how I’m doing. I understand stocks isn’t a way to invest, and I’m saying no more than 100K in stock holdings. I think that would be a blast, especially if i could time when the stock market will bottom out.
The question then would become what sort of business would I begin. I would start some sort of business that offered some sort of on-line training. Helping people get certified or continuing education for their professions. I know lots of jobs that require certifications. I could also have a defensive driving course, learn to speak Spanish, all kinds of possibilities for on-line training.
I would also take some money and my girlfriend and I would take off on a month-long vacation to places to be determined. Again, all of this would be budgeted so I could feel comfortable while being on vacation. I would love to visit Ireland, love to visit some places here in the U.S. I’ve never had the chance to see. I would like to go to Vegas, camp in Colorado, go swimming in a pool in Hawaii (with a water bar and the drinks with the umbrellas in them).
After the month-long vacation I would want to build a house with about 5,000 sq feet of living area on the side of some mountain that was isolated from people and traffic. A place perhaps on a huge lake with a lakehouse and a beautiful yard. So many possibilities. A place with a beautiful pool and an area to cook-out beside it.
The main thing in becoming a billionaire is to not give it all away. I promise myself I would be frugal and aside from the initial purchases, really just live pretty plain and obscure. I would like being at family gatherings and not having to say a word about it. Yet everyone would know I had made it financially. Of course, it wouldn’t bother me to let my brother-in-law know that I was right after all when I told him long ago I would end up in a better position than him…he was always smug about that.
