Young’s walk-off homer lifts Rangers

Two-run eighth sets up dramatic finish against Royals

Michael Young led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a home run off reliever Kyle Farnsworth to give the Rangers a 6-5 victory over the Royals on Sunday.

The Rangers trailed, 5-3, before rallying for two runs in the bottom of the eighth. The rally started with Andruw Jones slamming a double off the left-field wall against Royals reliever Ron Mahay. Michael Young led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a home run off reliever Kyle Farnsworth to give the Rangers a 6-5 victory over the Royals on Sunday.

Hank Blalock followed with a grounder at Royals first baseman Mike Jacobs, who fumbled it for an error. Nelson Cruz’s slow grounder to second scored one run and a two-out single by Chris Davis tied it up.

Rangers starter Vicente Padilla allowed five runs in five innings and now has a 9.64 ERA after three starts.

The Rangers took a 2-0 lead in the first off of Royals starter Kyle Davies, who walked four in the inning. Jacobs tied it up with a two-run home run in the top of the second but Ian Kinsler hit his fourth home run of the season in the bottom of the inning to give the Rangers a 3-2 lead. They managed just one more single until Jones’ double to start the eighth.

Mavs take Game 1

Watching the Mavs watch party at the American Airlines Center was a hoot. Especially with the Mavs winning. I told my daughter Lacey, who lives in San Antonio and is a huge Spurs fan, that we would be lucky to win this game. Especially cause it was on the road.

The Mavericks didn’t feel like they stole Game 1 against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday. Their 105-97 victory at AT&T Center wasn’t a heist. It was about as thorough a playoff road victory as you can get when the teams are close to evenly matched.

Who’d have thought it possible? The Mavericks were a timid road team all season. Suddenly, they came out with the passion and grit that usually belongs to the Spurs. The Mavericks may not be in control of this best-of-7 series. But they certainly sent a loud, clear message to many of their doubters.

Meanwhile, I was enjoying the fans have a great time as evidenced here.
