And the hits just keep on coming

Have you ever had a friend that just digs themself in deeper and deeper pooh pooh with every passing day?

I have a friend like that.

I know life is tough these days. I get all of that. But doesn’t life prepare us somewhat to make good decisions in tough times?

I wish in a way I could go into details here, but I just can’t. But believe me that today is a sad day when it comes to a friendship I once had.

I’m pretty much surprised and feel pretty sick about the events of today.

I’ve learned a thing or two in my days of life on this earth, and one of the things that I have learned is sometimes, things aren’t as good as they seem, and other times, things aren’t as bad as they seem.

I’m not sure where things go from here, but the bottom line is, I’m just left with a feeling of disappointment for my friend.

I’m a firm believer that you can’t have too many friends, so in life, there isn’t much sense in trying to create drama and lose any and all friends we happen to make in our life time.

But I am currently reading the book Lonesome Dove, and I read this passage today that I feel like is pretty relevent:

“I should have rode on, Call,” Jake said apologetically. “But Fort Smith’s a pretty town. It’s on the river, and I like to have a river running by me. They eat catfish down there. I got where it sort of suited my tooth.”

“I’d like to see the fish that could keep me in a place that I wasn’t wanted,” Call said. Jake had always been handy with excuses.

“That’s what we’ll tell the sheriff when he shows up to take you back.,” Augustus said. “Maybe he’ll take you fishing while you are waiting to be hung.”

Sometimes your friends just can’t help themselves when they make mistakes.

Thursday’s Thought Provoking thoughts

It’s 8:07 on a Thursday night here in the apartment. I’m beginning to wonder if I might have done something wrong, when at age 58, I’m living in an apartment.

I feel like writing. There is no family or pets here, there is some degree of depression, so I feel like writing.

What would you do if you were only allowed to walk say, 5000 steps in one day? Would you just walk when absolutely necessary? That’s what I do now. Why? Because last Saturday, my friend Dave and I went to see the Dallas Aquarium and really didn’t walk that much. After I got home I was beat. My energy was completely gone and it hurt. Trust me when I tell you if you ever run completely dry from having no energy, it will cause you pain.

So I’m in the process of changing doctors. My first appointment with them is 6/5. Wish me luck that they will have some clue on why I can’t seem to exercise without losing energy to the point of total exhaustion.

So lets throw some good stuff in here. How about those Texas Rangers??? Woooo Hooooo!!!! And hey, while your at it, how about voting for your favorite Rangers for the All-Star game

So Tom Hicks is open to selling the majority interest to someone? Wow! I know of someone that would make a great majority owner!

I grilled some hamburger patties on my George Foreman grill tonight and they were awesome!

Well this isn’t a big surprise to me. Eury Jr. Out as Earnhardt’s Crew Chief . I mean, Hendrick Motor Sports has the best equipment in Nascar. And the other three teams of Hendrick are all doing pretty good…but not so Earnhardt jr.

And I knew UT Coach Mack Brown would love this.

Well, I guess that’s all for now. If you ever have trouble falling asleep, I found a nice over-the-counter medicene for sleep called Melatonin that is great for sleep.

So, while all of you “normal” human beings enjoy excersising, having girlfriends and boyfriends, having a great sex life etc., I’ll just sit here and write and wonder how a 58 year old ends up in an apartment by himself.

Cheers.

Mark Cuban will have his day in court

Mavs owner Mark Cuban finally gets his day in court to respond to the Security and Exchange Commission about his alleged insider trading moves.

The insider trading suit filed against Cuban by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission last year is scheduled to receive its first hearing Tuesday when attorneys present oral arguments on a motion by the billionaire owner to have the case dismissed.

“The basis on which they’re going after Cuban hasn’t been tried before,” said Peter Henning, a law professor at Wayne State University in Detroit who formerly worked as an attorney in the SEC’s enforcement division. “Whether the SEC is going to be able to stretch (its authority) that far certainly remains to be seen.”

The SEC alleges that Cuban engaged in insider trading when he sold his shares in a Canadian Internet search engine company, Mamma.com Inc., after receiving confidential information that the company planned to sell additional shares through a private offering in 2004. Cuban was able to avoid more than $750,000 in losses by selling his shares, according to the SEC.

All I can say is this seems to be an unprecedented type of case for the SEC. I’m pretty sure it’s all going to come down to legal definitions until they all get tired of definitions. I’m pretty sure Cuban has some pretty deep pockets to keep arguing that point.

Texas grabs No. 1 baseball seed

It appears the University of Texas’ strong pitching staff has helped the team get the #1 seed in college baseball tournament.

The Longhorns (41-13-1), who won the Big 12 tournament for the fourth time, will host one of 16 four-team, double-elimination regionals that begin Friday. It’s the second time Texas, coached by Division I career victories leader Augie Garrido, has been the No. 1 overall seed.

The other national seeds, in order, are: Cal State Fullerton (42-14), LSU (46-16), North Carolina (42-16), Arizona State (44-12), UC Irvine (43-13), Oklahoma (41-18) and Florida (39-20).

The 16 regional winners move on to the best-of-three super regionals, beginning June 5. The eight super regional winners advance to the College World Series, which begins June 13 in Omaha, Neb.

The Big 12 — Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas A&M — and Southeastern Conference — Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Mississippi, South Carolina and Vanderbilt — each had eight tournament berths.

Rambling thoughts on a Friday night

I’m sitting here on a Friday night with the Rangers/Astros game in the bottom of the 10th with the Rangers leading 6-5 and I have the urge to blog.

Sometimes I just freeze up when it comes to writing and then I feel comfortable telling myself to just start writing and let the thoughts flow, which usually helps break the writer’s cramp. So here we go with some rambling thoughts.

Derek Holland Gets his shot

So the 22-year-old lefty gets a chance to join the starting rotation. Vicente Padilla’s injury and subsquent stay on the DL means he’ll get at least two starts. And GM Jon Daniels won’t make any decisions about whether Holland stays in the rotation until he’s evaluated how Holland does (and, I’m sure, how the rest of the rotation does). Daniels also didn’t seem too concerned about Padilla, saying at this point that rest should take care of the problem. Let’s hope that’s the case.

I like Holland and I hope he makes the best of his opportunity.

Oh snap! I forgot my cell phone!

Have you ever left your cell phone somewhere?

Today is my day. I left my phone on the charger, and walked right out of my place without it. Not that I have that many people calling me, but I just realized how much I used it for other than phone calls.

How can I stay up to date with my Facebook account now?

When it comes lunch time, how am I gonna text the fellow co-workers to rally on a spot to eat lunch?

I miss the little vibration on my hip when I get an e-mail. Oh no!!!!!!

How am I gonna survive today???? I was the one who always made fun of folks as I people-watched on the train. Made fun at how people were stuck to their phones. Now, I understand how a person can have a conversation and be connected. I feel so unconnected and vulnerable now.

If you are reading this post, please know I will be back among the living this evening when I get home and get my phone!

Martin-Cuban feud still hot

Let me understand this correctly.

After the Nuggets won a controversial game in Dallas, when the NBA later admitted a foul should have been called on Mavericks guard Antoine Wright and a game-winning three-pointer from Denver forward Carmelo Anthony wiped out, Cuban was incensed. He passed by Martin’s mother, Lydia Moore, and has admitted saying “that includes your son’’ when a fan called Nuggets players thugs.

Meanwhile, Cuban admits he “made a mistake’’ in having apologized to Martin’s mother on his blog and not having yet done so personally in a timely fashion. But Cuban, in an e-mail to HoopsHype.com, wrote he wants Martin to take responsibility for his actions, which he wrote included calling a wife of a Mavericks staff member a “(expletive) fat pig’’ and making an obscene gesture.

So not only does Martin play and act like a thug, he doesn’t like the way Cuban delivers an apology, yet he doesn’t have a problem being a thug on the court? What’s wrong with this picture?

Martin had been fined $25,000 by the NBA and assessed a flagrant foul 1 for a Game 1 incident in which he knocked Mavericks star forward Dirk Nowitzki hard to the floor.

Following last Monday’s Game 4 in Dallas, the Mavericks’ only win in a 4-1 series loss, it has been reported Martin launched profanity in the direction of Cuban. Then, a few hours after that game, Cuban did get around to apologizing to Martin’s mother, doing it on his blog.
