Fort Worth Herd marks 10 years on the move

The Fort Worth Herd’s longhorns and a cowhand amble along Exchange Avenue on Saturday. About 75 people signed up to ride along.

FORT WORTH — Hundreds of spectators lined Exchange Avenue in the heat Saturday morning to watch the 10th anniversary cattle drive along the Trinity River.

It’s believed to be the 7,051st drive that Fort Worth has held to provide visitors a glimpse of life in the 1800s.

About 75 people signed up to ride along Saturday, said Kristin Jaworski, trail boss since 2002. One couple came from Arkansas.

“Some of the fellows here rode with us in ’99,” Jaworski said.

Joe and Elizabeth Devane of Alabama were in the Stockyards on vacation. They didn’t know that they would be witnessing history.

“Those animals are magnificent with those horns,” Elizabeth Devane said.

The Family

Lacey, Brian, Lewis, and Jacky Patton

I will be making this an on-going project so check back often for new postings of pictures.

Troy finally graduates from UCLA

Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman has graduated from UCLA 21 years after starring for the Bruins.

Aikman participated in Saturday’s graduation ceremony on the Westwood campus along with 450 other graduates. He earned his sociology degree earlier this year, having left college as the No. 1 pick in the 1989 NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys.

“I’m glad I came back and went through the ceremony,” Aikman said. “I had some reservations because I didn’t really know any of the other students, but I had a great time and it brought back a lot of great memories of my time here. UCLA is a great place and I’m glad to be a part of it.”

No word if he stayed out all night and went to parties.
