Brian Collins’ Waco Job Has Gone Boom

Just two days after Bob Costas used Brian Collins’ signature catch phrase, Busted Coverage published an item pointing out that Collins’ days as a Waco newscaster might be over. We can confirm that Collins’ gig has, indeed, been dynamited.

Collins’ “Meet The Team” biography was taken down at KXXV-TV, the ABC affiliate where he worked, and the link to it is no longer active. Collins’ last report is datelined May 15, and it was about six Texas car dealerships losing their Chrysler franchises.

When we called the station’s newsroom and asked to speak with Collins, we were told that he “no longer works here.” The polite woman who answered our call didn’t know when he had left the station and had no further information about his future plans. Here’s to hoping Collins lands on his feet, and soon. We’re confident that with just a little more publicity, he’ll be looking for a measure of revenge against the New Jersey Nets and to strengthen his playoff hopes before we know it.

Book Review: The Shack

I’m about 20% in to this book and I can’t put the thing down.

My daughter Karin was gracious enough to send it to me, and I’m so glad and thankful she did. I don’t want to take a chance and spoil it for you, but just do yourself a favor, get the book!

The writing style is exciting in itself. I never knew the description of a ladybug could be so detailed, but William Paul Young did so in a very interesting way. It’s a guy meets God novel and it’s amazing.

You just never know how people will think

Imagine for a moment living in a neighborhood where trains go through your neighborhood.

Now imagine trying to sleep late on a Saturday morning, except the trains come by and blow their horns waking up everyone in the area. Wouldn’t you think the people in those neighborhoods would want less noise?

You would be wrong in thnking that. Some people welcome the train horns as a signal that the trains are there.

Take a look at this article and tell me that common sense has left our society and that the mistrust of people in their community leaders is at an all-time low.

Omaha wakes up to dream matchup

OMAHA, Neb. — No offense to Fresno State’s fairy-tale run to last year’s national championship over Georgia. It certainly was a good story complete with a Cinderella ending.

But this year’s College World Series champion will come from the type of dream matchup you pray for and then hope comes true.

It’s time to rejoice because the baseball gods have delivered such a matchup for this edition of The Greatest Show on Dirt.

On Monday night (7 ET on ESPN/ESPN360.com), the LSU Tigers (54-16) and Texas Longhorns (49-14-1) will shake the foundation of tired Rosenblatt Stadium and begin a best-of-three series to determine the 2009 college baseball national champion.
