WASHINGTON — NASA could put a man on the moon but didn’t have the sense to keep the original video of the live TV transmission.
In an embarrassing acknowledgment, the space agency said Thursday that it must have erased the Apollo 11 moon footage years ago so that it could reuse the videotape.
But now Hollywood is coming to the rescue.
The studio wizards who restored “Casablanca” are digitally sharpening and cleaning up the ghostly, grainy footage of the moon landing, making it even better than what TV viewers saw on July 20, 1969. They are doing it by working from four copies that NASA scrounged from around the world.
“There’s nothing being created; there’s nothing being manufactured,” said NASA senior engineer Dick Nafzger, who is in charge of the project. “You can now see the detail that’s coming out.”
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo stars in an online video spoof of not-so-real items he’s not endorsing.
The video, provided Thursday to The Associated Press by funnyordie.com, opens with Romo alone on a football field, in a shirt and a cap with the logo of one of his real sponsors, Starter.
The 29-year-old athlete pokes fun at tabloids that have covered his love life. He also talks about a gasoline that tastes like chocolate, and vice versa.
Romo in October 2007 reached a six-year, $67.5 million contract with the Cowboys.
Messages for comment left by AP with a representative with funnyordie.com and with Romo’s agent, Ken Kremer, were not immediately returned Thursday.
I like to think I’m pretty positive and upbeat most of the time. I am thankful for another day of life no matter how bad a day can become. Today was one of those days.
I get caught up in trivial things that upset me, when what I should be doing is living life to the fullest and enjoying each minute. I feel bad that today got away from me without fully appreciating it. I think what I should do sometimes is just stop, close my eyes, breath in, and think about a serene scene to take me away from the petty things in life that aggravate me at times.
Life is too short not to enjoy every minute of it right?
So today I got up and thought it would be a good day to drive in to work as opposed to my usual train ride in.
I got on Hwy 183 and headed for Dallas and turned the radio on and was running the usual channels. I got to 92.5 KZPS and heard that Bo Roberts had had a heart attack either yesterday or Tuesday.
I’ve been listening to ol Bo for as long as I can remember since living here in the metroplex.
He is scheduled to have quadruple bypass surgery tomorrow. Ours prayers and good thoughts go out to Bo during this time. Hang in there Bo!!!
