It’s fun to let God drive my life

Hello there. It’s been awhile since I’ve blogged anything. I’ve been kind of busy looking for employment and just haven’t felt the need to write. By the way, thanks for continuing to read this blog.

I wanted to tell you this story that happened to me today. I took some garbage out to the dumpster and on the way back in I noticed a bag that looked like a computer bag resting by a pole under the covered parking area where we park our cars here at the apartment complex. There were no other vehicles around it, so I just assumed someone got in their car and forgot their bag.

I went over and picked it up and took it inside my apartment to see if I could find the rightful owner. There was a plastic tag on it that said “If found, contact so-and-so” which was a company e-mail address. I immediately sent an e-mail and went on about my business of trying to find a job. Being in college admissions, I needed to hurry and find a job since school had just started at most high schools in the area.

At about 3:00, a gentleman called and said that that is his bag, and when and where could he pick it up? Turns out he and his family live here at the apartments. I told him I would meet him at the leasing office in 5 minutes. He walked in the door of the office and flashed his airlines credentials verifying his name, and I handed him the bag. It was a heavy bag complete with a laptop and other stuff that he needed to do his job. He was so thankful to get it back and wanted to pay me, for which I refused.

Seriously, I’m so blessed

So it’s Friday evening, and I’m just chilin tonight on the balcony with a glass of wine and my laptop.

I’m able to just sit back and marvel how fortunate and blessed I am. I was released from my job on 9/3/09, and I just found out I qualified for unemployment benefits. Thank God for that.Seriously!

So all I have as far as bills are rent, electric, cable, and phone.

I just made my last truck note. I am very thankful. Now I can take time to get my resume  in order and start looking for a new place to work, no stress though.

I didn’t feel good today. I have bloodwork scheduled for Monday. Hopefully, my cholesterol has gone down, but we’ll see. My insurance is good till the 30th…and I applied for COBRA benefits, so we’ll see how all of that goes.

I am trying to get the program “I Am Second” program at my church and college..more on that later.

Thanks to Kristi for offering to by me dinner Tuesday which is my birthday….that made my day. Thanks!

OK more later…hope you have more going on on a friday than me..lol

Tom Landry has moved

The statue of Tom Landry that stood at Texas Stadium’s entrance was installed Tuesday at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. The 9-foot bronze statue is located at Gate A just in time for fans to see it at this Sunday’s home opener against the New York Giants.

Time for a reunion of sorts

I had the honor and distinct pleasure of going to my high school reunion at Sweetwater High School yesterday. As I was driving to and from the reunion, I had so much I wanted to say about it. Now, as usual, when I sit down to write about it, I’m overcome with a loss of words about how special this was to me.

Being able to see old friends, just being able to go back home. It was such an honor to be able to reminisce with school mates.

Clifford Ashley, Norbert Zimmerman, Pat Smith Forgay…great to see ya’ll. It was just super to see everyone. I did make a mistake and called Debra Cox Janice Bahlman. Boy, was I embarrassed. Something tells me though that I wasn’t the only one making mistakes like that. It was great to see Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Smith. Awsome…Mr. Smith was my elementary school principal at Southeast Elementary. He still looks like he could go bear hunting with a willow switch, and he’s 78 now I think he said. Heck, he looks better than I do..but then, yeah…

It’s time for our high school reunion!

It’s time to go to my high school reunion.

I thought of all kinds of reasons why I shouldn’t go. Let’s see, because it’s supposed to rain, uhh I need to change the plugs in my truck, uhhh not sure if my sock drawer is organized enough….ok, so the real reason i started to not go? I’m unemployed. Think about it….Imagine the questions. “Uh Lewis? What are you doing now?” This coming from a guy that has 35 years at Haliburton or some such…It’s gonna be difficult, so why go through with it?

Because this might be the last time I see these people! The Class of 69 is 40 years old this year. Wow.

So I’m gonna load up the laptop and camera and trek over to west texas tomorrow and enjoy the day that is the reunion. Wish me luck.

Well I’ m here at Mustang Bowl….Be sure to keep with with live updates here!

Good morning!

I had an idea to just start a thread, and just add to it all day…check back often.

So I went to the college bookstore, and got my last book to start classes next Monday.  Just wanted to mention how God works again. I’m am applying for unemployment, and the book that I needed for my Managment class cost 175.00! But the business office wrote me a book voucher and covered the cost of the book.

Isn’t that so like God? To have paid the price for us on the Cross?

All things are taken care of with him by our sides.

OK, so I have some big news! At least it’s big news for me. I’m going to the Homecoming in Sweetwater to see the game!

Not only that, I’ve been allowed to write about it! I get a pass to the pressbox so I can hook up to the internet and report directly from the game!!! How cool is that? I will be posting the game on my other blog for the Abilene Reporter News. So yeah, there’s that.

And I’m just now seeing this…it looks exciting for Tarrant County’s future!

And so, I guess I’ll end this thread with the way it started off. A tribute to our men and women who serve this great country..

I wasn’t sure why I posted that video right off the top this morning…but after reading this a bit ago, now I know.
