Aaahhh, the TV Playoff schedule

NBC got the Eagles-Cowboys game after all, just a week later.

And this one will mean a lot more.

In a move that will surprise many of the reports we’ve seen Sunday night, the Cowboys and Eagles will face off in Dallas next Saturday night at 8 ET on NBC.   The Jets or Texans (Okay, the Jets) will face the Bengals at 4:30 on Saturday.

The Ravens-Patriots will play at 1ET Sunday on CBS, while the Packers-Cardinals will be the second game of the afternoon on Fox.

What is it about some Cowboys fans?

So I’m listening to the Cowboys post game show after the Cowboys have beaten the dreaded and feared Philadelphia Eagles. I’m listening to Larry Brown and some other guy on 105.3 The Fan when I keep hearing call ins thinking the Eagles lost on purpose? Why would the Eagles travel to Dallas to lose on purpose? That’s about the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. My theory? I think Cowboys fans are too scared to believe the Cowboys truly beat the Eagles for real, so some of the fans think it’s a grassy knoll theory. Amazing.

All we need now is the next victory to put the playoff jinx to rest for good. Is Rowdy going to be out-of-town??

Congrats to the 2009 NFC East Champion Dallas Cowboys!

Fact:  With the shutout today of the Philadelphia Eagles, it’s the first time in the 49 year history of the Dallas Cowboys where they have shut out teams 2 consecutive games in a row.

Fact: Tony Romo is the only QB in the NFL that has taken every snap for his team this year.

Fact: The Dallas Cowboys are your 2009 NFC East Champions.

The Cowboys are hot right now, just at the right time.

Tony Romo threw a pair of early touchdown passes and the defense took over from there, sending Dallas to a 24-0 victory over Philadelphia on Sunday and setting up a rematch at their new palace next weekend.

The Cowboys (11-5) have quickly become a team nobody wants to face this postseason. This was their third straight impressive win and their most complete performance of the entire season.

The shutout also made for a major milestone in the club’s storied history: First-ever back-to-back blanking. Only twice in the previous 49 seasons had they even had two shutouts the entire season.

Philadelphia (11-5) hadn’t been swept by Dallas since 2005. The Eagles had two of their three lowest-scoring games against the Cowboys, with the common denominator being a lack of big plays. Their longest in this game was 32 yards on a first-half drive that ended in a fumbled snap.

And this is what Eagles coach Andy Reid said after the game:

“We’ll be ready,” a terse coach Andy Reid said after the game.

“They were a better football team all the way around, offense, defense and special teams … We have to go back to the drawing board and make sure we get things right for this next game here.”

“I didn’t think it was a lack of effort. It goes back to putting the players in the right position and when they are in the right positions to make the plays. Maybe a little bit too much effort, maybe to relax a little bit.”

Reid said the Eagles were going to try to “learn from their mistakes and do better the next time.”

The coach was asked about going for a David Akers field goal, trailing by 17-0.

“I would like to have gotten some points there.”

On the injury front, Reid said DeSean Jackson tweaked his groin but was “feeling all right.”

Michael Vick was again inactive with a quad strain, but Reid said he did not have any setback leading into the game.

“We had a couple of things with him this week and decided to pull back there,” Reid said.

Man oh man, the NEXT game is gonna be just as awesome as today. The difference? It will finally be a time to win a playoff game for a change.

Uh oh, looks like Zorn is the 1st casualty of the finished season

It doesn’t take long for teams to start firing coaches once the regular season ends in the NFL.

According to Adam Schefter at ESPN, the Washington Redskins are just about to fire Jim Zorn. What kind of struck me as odd about this story is, they may fire Zorn on the way home from San Diego today on the flight from San Diego.

Washington closes out its season at San Diego, and it’s possible that Allen could fire Zorn on the long plane ride home. But it is more likely that Zorn will be dismissed Monday, once the team is back and settled in Washington. Either way, Zorn is expected to be the first head coach fired in what always is one of the most tumultuous times of the year in the NFL

Wow. I guess if the Redskins happen to win, they will wait until the plane lands.

Don’t ever get Dan Snyder mad at you!

The Ice Man Cometh

Not sure what kind of plans you have around Thursday, but you might want to get those plans completed by Wednesday.

According to weather reports, a powerful arctic high gathering strength east of Alaska in the Yukon and Northwest Territories will plunge toward the lower 48 by midweek.
The latest computer models (like the National Weather Service version above) indicate the arctic air mass will be in Dallas-Fort Worth by Thursday morning. Bitter wind chills near zero are likely and some precipitation is possible Thursday night.
The cold air could give the Dallas-area two to three days sub-freezing highs and lows in the teens.
Unless it changes course, the cold wave could encompass virtually everything east of the Rockies except deep South Texas and southern Florida by Friday.

Is it time for baseball yet?
