Spurs fans embrace ‘Dirty Mexicans’ controversy with snazzy shirt

From  Out of Bounds

Of course we recall the latest Twitter fiasco that got someone fired … former MLB pitcher and radio executive Mike Bacsik, whose unfortunate reference to “dirty mexicans” got him canned from Dallas radio station KTCK. But in a somewhat surprising development, San Antonio residents of Mexican descent have taken the controversy and stood it on its ear, in amusing garment form.

Under a tent near General McMullen and Highway 90, a vendor is selling black shirts with the words, “Dirty Mexican.” Above the “D” is a little sombrero. In the middle is the Spurs logo.

“Everybody likes it, man,” Javier Garcia says. “Everybody loves it. Everybody’s wearing it. It’s been selling out like crazy.”

Garcia told News Radio 1200 WOAI, the phrase has become a rallying cry, and indeed a point of pride, in the Hispanic community.

“You can call us a dirty Mexican, you can call us clean, you can call us whatever you want,” Garcia said. “We’re still going to the next round.”

That can be a metaphor for other things, by the way. Catch our drift, Arizona?

Of course, Garcia may soon have to answer to a higher authority than state government, or even God. His shirts are not officially licensed by the NBA. David Stern: “Subject spotted near General McMullen and Highway 90. Swarm! Swarm!”

One of life’s little (huge) pleasures

I know this going to sound somewhat backwards to the youngsters in the house, but to this old baby boomer, the Apple iPod Nano 5th generation is one of the neatest, coolest, awsomest piece of technology I have ever seen. Is awesomest a word?

I just became the proud owner of this product and it’s like gaining a new pet, without having to worry about house breaking the iPod. I mean, I love this thing. I can’t imagine not going anywhere without it! Check out these features of this amazing piece of technology.

1) Obviously, you know you can purchase music from Apple and load it on the Nano for .99 per song.

2) It also has a cool video camera where I can take videos now!

3) Surprisingly, it also contains an FM radio (earphones must be in for this feature to work.) And by the way, you can digitally tune it to your favorite channel.

4) You can record notes to yourself, it has an alarm, it has lots and lots of things to help you through your day. This little piece of dynamite can do sooooo much for so little. And all for a little more than $100.00. Where have I been?? I just bought a case for it so I can wear it on my belt, or put it on a deal to put on my arm which will be neat when I start working out.

And don’t ask me how it does it, but I have been listening to some classic rock on the radio, and I can go back and play some songs I heard 30 minutes ago. It SAVES them! Wow. You all probably know all of this. You all probably have one of these, so I’m probably not shedding any light on your world but if in case you don’t have one of these jewels, you have got to get one!

P.S. did I mention it downloads podcasts? Yeah, I’m able to hear my pastor’s sermon on the podcasts!

Could This Be The Most Blatant Dive In Soccer History?

From Deadspin

This gem comes straight to you from the Faroe Islands, where Kaj Ennigarð of ÍF Fuglafjørður goes down like a sack of potatoes after apparently being hit by a gust of wind. It certainly wasn’t the other player, that’s certain.

Your Random ADD Post

Admit it. You have wondered before if you ever had Attention Deficit Disorder.

I don’t know if I have it, but I imagine the following would feel like having that illness. Follow along with me. I imagine this is what it would feel like if you had ADD. Read the following and stop at the hyperlinks and see for yourself.

I suppose I lead a rather boring life.

I work and then come home just about every day. I like simplicity.

Sometimes for fun, I water my plants. Sometimes I read magazines. Hoo boy, sometimes all of the excitement makes me tired.

Sometimes, I think back to when I was younger and didn’t get so tired all of the time.

Don’t get me wrong, I still do lots of things, but i have slowed down some since my younger days.

I’m just glad it’s baseball season now. It’s time for fun!

So as you can see, my thought process is always jumping about. I don’t know if it’s ADD, but it can’t be normal!

Gee, is it Monday already?

I had a blast this weekend, I could have used a few more days off with this great weather we are getting.

The Cowboys had a pretty good draft weekend, the Rangers came back home to some home cooking and took 2 of 3 from the Tigers and finishing up the four game sries tonight. The Mavericks? Eh, maybe next year as usual.

I read this story from my friend Rick Chandler’s blog this morning and it cracked me up. Seriously, how could someone be this stupid?

It occurs to me that Twitter has become somewhat of an ersatz lie detector test; a lot of our thoughts travel unabated from out brain to our thumbs and out into the atmosphere, before we even realize it. “Where u at?” “I’m so happy rite now”. “Congrats to all the dirty mexicans in San Antonio”. Oops. Mike Bacsik is a former journeyman pitcher, somewhat famous only because he gave up Barry Bonds’ 756th homer in 2007, which broke Hank Aaron’s all-time record. He’s currently the producer on The Ticket 1310 radio in Dallas for Norm Hitzges, and occasionally shows up on the air. Moments after the Dallas Mavericks were beaten by the San Antonio Spurs in Game 4 of their playoff series on Sunday, Bacsik favored his followers with this tweet. Then realizing what he’d done, he deleted it — plus a bunch of others — but it was too late. This was forwarded to me by Sports Grind Entertainment, one of many I’m sure who have immortalized the tweet in screen grab form.

Someone has already altered his Wikipedia page, and not in a good way (see Early Years. UPDATE: Someone has removed the line “he’s a racist.”). Fun fact: Bacsik’s father, Michael James Bacsik, was also a major league pitcher, and faced Aaron twice after he had hit his 755th homer. But Bacsik gave up a single and got a fly out. It would be up to his son to give someone No. 756.

That’s too funny!

We are getting some interest in the new Facebook site, Starving Writers. If you know of anyone that fancys themselves as a poet, or writer, or any type of multi-media type artist, send em over. Have a great day and we’ll see ya.

UPDATE::::::: See? You always reap what ya sow!!

Saturday Scattershooting

April 24, 21010

Good Saturday morning world!

It’s the best day of the week for me. I have time to sit down with a cup of coffee and collect my thoughts that get stored in my head throughout the week, but I never have time to write about at that time.

Thanks for stopping by, I know there are millions of things to read, so I’ll get right to the point with my thoughts.

How bout those Cowboys huh? Dez Bryant and Sean Lee. Everyone keeps asking the question “what about left tackle?” I would imagine Jerry already has that question answered. The Cowboys already have Doug Free, but remember, this is an unrestricted cap year in the NFL, which means Jerry can go buy anyone he wants in the free agent market place. Owners can spend as much as they want, there is no cap. Watch what happens after this draft is over. The fun will just be starting.

I’m starting a new group to see if there is an interest by writers who want to network and exchange ideas. The group is called “Starving Writers” and I have started a page on Facebook for the group. I find it hard to really think of myself as of writer, but the fact is, I’ve been doing this blog for a few years now, and I like writing, so I guess I can consider myself as a writer. Pretty sure there are tons of folks like me out there so we’ll see how this group goes. Let’s hope we can get some people interested in it but I’m somewhat sceptical as I haven’t seen many people comment on this blog, but we’ll see. I’m sure there are people out there that write poetry, short stories, interest in many things, so let’s see if we can stir that interest in joining a group. The reason I call the group Starving Writers is most writers that are starting out and are passionate about writing, very seldom get paid. We do it because it’s interesting and it’s like a second nature to us. It’s like a starving artist kind of thing. There is talent and desire, we just don’t get paid for it. That’s ok, we don’t need the money to do what we like to do. So, we’ll see how it goes.

I’m very thankful my stress test came back ok. It was huge in fact for me to realize I’m ok. I hadn’t realized how worried I was about myself that I caused myself more harm than good. The plain truth is, I worried too much and dwelled on it too much. After the stress test, I went out last night and had some chicken wings and boy, were they good. It was a far cry from the rice and beans I had been eating to make sure I hadn’t been eating any fat.

Some other rambling thoughts:

Will Tiger and his wife get divorced?

Will the Texas Rangers ever get sold?

How will the Dallas Mavericks feel if they lose in the 1st round to San Antonio?

How long will it take before Deadspin.com to get sued?

I’m about to go do some Saturday chores. Thanks for reading my blog, and come back soon!

Pregnant Volleyball Player Loses Discrimination Complaint

You might remember when we posted this story last December, about the high school student who filed suit against her high school volleyball coach because he asked her to get a doctor’s slip to continue to play volleyball.

Well, it seems like her suit based on discrimination was lost in court.

Mackenzie McCollum, 17, had claimed coaches at Arlington Heights High School discriminated against her by requiring her to get a doctor’s note before she could continue playing volleyball. She filed a civil rights complaint with the U.S. Department of Education.

After an investigation, the department decided not to pursue the case, said McCollum’s attorney, Lara Kaufmann, of the Washington-based Women’s Law Center.

Amazing how we clog the courts system with frivolous suits right?

2010 Playboy Top 10 Party Schools

I’m not sure how these schools get evaluated, but the votes are in and it looks like the University of Texas in Austin Texas is now the #1 party school according to Playboy Magazine. Here is their description of UT:

#1 UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN
The Longhorns football team fell just short in the national championship game, but here’s a victory the entire school can claim a part of. We’re talking to you, bikinied coed in Devil’s Cove, and you, star wide receiver Jordan Shipley, and even the humanities library, which just purchased David Foster Wallace’s papers. When you add up academics, the weather, the liberal atmosphere, South by Southwest, game day and the nightlife on Sixth Street, UT Austin is one heck of a school. Hook ’em, Horns!

I could make a joke here, but I won’t.  I’ll just say say I’m glad Texas A&M didn’t make this list.

The NY Yankees have an “Official” Guacamole

Ho boy, it’s funny how the sports world is turning to advertising during this economic recovery. Even the New York Yankees are not immune from looking NASCARish when it comes to advertising.
