The Morning Tweet, and I’m almost famous!

I am pretty humbled to be recognized as a friend of Rick Chandler of the NBC Blog called Out of Bounds.

Not only is my friend Lew Patton a Dallas Cowboys follower, but he’s also a fan of Presidential press secretaries. So it was no wonder he came across this late Wednesday; proof positive that the White House is not only concerned with oil spills and unemployment figures.

That was fun Rick, and thanks for the props!!

A Tribute to Tom Landry

It seems that the immortal Tom Landry will be honored this fall at the State Fair of Texas.

A display featuring private memorabilia from legendary Dallas Cowboys coach Tom Landry will complement an exhibit celebrating a century of North Texas football when the State Fair of Texas opens next month.

Alicia Landry, the iconic coach’s widow, will provide most of the items from her private collection – much of which has never been seen in public before. It will include championship game balls, trophies and one of the coach’s trademark felt fedoras.

For those of you who dopn’t remember Tom Landry, I can not think of any person that was a better example of a great man and great coach.

It’s that Reunion time of year!

The state of Texas is right on the verge of a seasonal change. I can feel it in the air, and there are several indications as to why I know summer is about to end.

The Cowboys are in the pre-season, the Rangers are in the last 1/3 of their season (and still in first place I might add), Wal-Mart is advertising back-to-school and tax-free weekends. Yeah, it’s all shaping up to be a great seasonal change. I took the garbage out earlier and it didn’t feel like I was walking into an oven when I stepped outside. The Grand Prairie AirHogs’ season has a week left on it. So long to all of my friends at QuickTrip Park, and I mean that.

This upcoming week, my old Army unit will be congregating in San Antonio for an Army Reunion. The First Infantry Division will be gathering by the river to welcome back troops that served in that glorious unit. I’m looking forward to it.

Then, in early September, I will be going to my home town to my high school reunion. Hooo Boy. Supposed to be the “greatest reunion in the history of Sweetwater Texas!” Hoooochie momma!!!!

I have to get ready for fall classes. Hope I can afford the books.

There’s one other sign that the seasons are changing here in Texas. High school football starts this week. Looking forward to reuniting with everything that brings fall weather again.

John Phillips may have torn ACL. Ouch!

Tight end John Phillips‘ push for a large role in the Cowboys offense may have hit a huge roadblock.

Todd Archer of the Dallas Morning News reports that Phillips “likely” suffered a torn ACL in his right knee against the Bengals.

“I’m going to stay positive and wait for [Monday] and see what the doctors get confirmed,” Phillips said.

Phillips backed up a strong training camp with four catches for 60 yards on Sunday night, leading all receivers.  He was pushing Martellus Bennett for playing time as the team’s backup tight end; Phillips showed great versatility in his ability to line up in multiple spots.

Now it appears that Phillips’ second NFL season could be over before it started.

It’s Emmitt’s turn at greatness

Hello Hall of Fame for Emmitt Smith!

A very special time for a special player, on a special team. As the Dallas Cowboys embark on their 50th season in the NFL, the running back with the most yards in NFL history will be going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

It seems like yesterday that Emmitt Smith showed up in Dallas one day looking like this:

And then, like it was only moments, I remember Emmitt Smitth in this pose:

Man oh man, where did the time go?

Join me now, as we watch some of the best Emmitt Smith runs..

I get choked up just watching some of these videos again. Man… what a treat it was to be able to watch Emmitt Smith run the ball.

Congrats Emmitt. You rock sir!

And remember when he broke THE record?

And then, the day always comes when you retire. It was tough watching him do it.

Thanks Emmitt. You gave us fans so much. Thanks so much for your days as a Dallas Cowboy.

Dez Bryant Deal is Done!!!

The Dallas Cowboys have announced that receiver Dez Bryant has agreed to terms.

At 5:47 Central time today. More to follow.

So much for any hold out. The Cowboys have reached an agreement with first round pick Dez Bryant.

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones is scheduled to meet with the media at 6:45 p.m. He and Bryant’s agent, Eugene Parker, started talks Monday and were able to come to a deal quickly. Bryant is the first first rounder to sign, which is a good thing because the Cowboys report to San Antonio on Friday for Saturday’s first practice.

The deal is 5-years, at $11.8 million with $8.3 million guaranteed.

The Cowboys traded up in April to get Bryant, the Lufkin native, after he slipped with some teams concerned about off-field issues. Bryant played in only three games as a junior at Oklahoma State because of an NCAA suspension. He had 17 catches for 323 yards and four touchdowns. He finished his college career with 147 receptions for 2,425 yards and 29 touchdowns.

With Miles Austin and Roy Williams, Bryant is not expected to start immediately, but he could have a big impact on special teams. He averaged 19.6 yards per punt return and also returned kicks.

Jimmy Johnson survived Jerry Jones, but can he survive this?

Former Dallas Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson will be a contestant on the reality TV show Survivor this fall. The show will take place in Nicaragua according to the Dallas Morning News.

The series is being taped in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. Filming started at the end of June, according to local reports.

Johnson, 67, will be one of the oldest contestants to ever appear on “Survivor,” one of his favorite television shows. The Miami Herald reported last year that he was almost a contestant on “Survivor: Gabon” (which aired in 2008), but he failed a physical. He has lost weight since.

Let’s hope Jimmy can make it 39 days without a beer.

Martellus Bennett at it again

Cowboys Tight End Martellus Bennett causing controversy on YouTube again. The video shows Bennett dressed up as Osama bin Laden. He’s already pulled the video, but it’s still out there on some news channels.
I have not seen it yet, but can this be any more stupid for an NFL player (or anyone for that matter) to do?
Given the fact that MartyB dropped from the #2 tight end to #3, should have been a signal for the guy to start concentrating on football, but we see where that ended up. Expect this guy to get cut in training camp because A) he’s not that good, and B) who needs Osama on heir team?

Just general thinking..oh yeah, it’s called scattershooting

If you Google the word “scattershooting” you will find lots of Texas results or results that are Texas related. I wonder why that is?

It’s Sunday evening and I have tons of things in my head, but nothing specific. Just thinking about a lot of things at once. Attention Deficit Disorder? I dunno. Here’s what I do know though, in order for a blog post to be interesting, it has to be interesting. Well duh, what does that mean? It means I shouldn’t write about myself but write about what’s interesting for the readers. Hello? No one really cares what I think, and I really don’t blame them for that.

The Rangers are in first place and the last game of the series with the Astros is tonight. Looks like the Rangers win the Silver Boot …again. Will Roy Oswalt become a Ranger? Will the Rangers ever get sold to Nolan Ryan et al? It’s somewhere in the future at this point.

Well boys and girls, it’s almost the national party that is the 4th of July! Hard to imagine time goes so fast that it’s almost the middle of summer already. I’m always amazed at how fast time goes from July 4th, until school starts. Seems like only minutes.

This week begins my last week at school. Yay. I had some good classes this semester.

I’ve also been watching lots of baseball this summer. The Grand Prairie AirHogs rock!

So I’ve been working, going to school, and blogging the AirHogs and I’ve been having a blast. I’ve been going to church, and trying to also do some volunteer work at work. I’ve been very blessed. I’m thankful for many things.

Oh, and here is a great picture of my team from work. We had an outing at the bowling alley. I had fun in spite of my 97.

Don’t look now, but it’s almost time for Cowboys training camp…the cycle continues.

Well I guess that’s about it. In honor of the Eagles who were in town this weekend, I’ll leave you with this…

Thanks for reading my blog!
