Solid NBA Finals analysis by clearly insane German man (video)

Our good friend Rick Chandler over at Off the Bench, just knocked one out of the park with this entry. This German in the video is so cheesy, he just cracked me up. Let me just repost Rick’s entry:

A recent study rated Germans as the least humorous nationality, and you can’t really disprove those findings with Flula Borg, the Bavarian-born DJ/TV personality/Dirk Nowitzki fan who enjoys playing on YouTube. Here’s Flula dissing the Miami Heat in his unique Flula way, which includes the declaration: “Miami Heat stay home! Netflix.” Also: “Chris Bosh: here inside, poo-poo time!”

Dirk Nowitzki: He plays good, like an iPod.

Maverick Prayer

“Our Mavericks, who art in Texas, winners be thy name. The Heat will come, they will be done, in Miami as they will be in Texas. Give us this week a series win, and forgive us our Home loss as we cause home losses upon them. Lead us not into the offseason, but deliver us a…Championship. Amen.”

Here’s what we know about the NBA Finals so far

We know that the series is now tied 2-2.

We know that Dirk Nowitzki will play through a bad finger injury with a brace, will play through with a 101 degree temperature, and we also know LeBron James is human after all.

From the Miami Herald today:

It’s not just the first time in his playoff career that LeBron has been held  below 10 points. It’s the first time in 434 NBA games, regular season and  playoffs included. It’s the first time overall since Jan. 5, 2007.

If he’d done this in Cleveland, sat on the weak side watching teammates do  the bulk of the lifting, he would’ve been called a quitter. Given that his team  was hardly getting blown out of this one – in fact, the Heat was leading by nine  points with 10:30 left in the fourth quarter with LeBron playing the facilitator – it should probably just be called a once-in-a-lifetime oddity. The Halley’s  Comet of LeBron James’ playoff career.

Ouch! It goes further:

But here’s where the criticism is absolutely valid in this one. If LeBron had  played 44 minutes as the sidekick, the egoless point forward with all the right  intentions, and then turned it on for the final four minutes, no one would’ve  been concerned about the final stat line.

If LeBron James decided that, in the final few minutes with the Heat  desperate for big buckets, he would switch to a scorer’s mentality and just  flat-out missed, it would at least be reasonable.

But for LeBron to attempt exactly one shot in the fourth quarter when his  team needed everything he had, it’s pretty much inexcusable.

So to put it mildly, LeBron is taking some HEAT (hahaha) for his poor performance no?

Look, the Dallas Mavericks are playing hard. They are huffing and puffing, running around bandaged up with a temperature of 101. These “old” guys have this series tied up at 2 games apiece. It’s going to be very interesting the way this thing ends up, but we do know that the Mavs are trying really hard in this thing. More than some players are playing right?

Wake Up Call: Your AirHogs break the slide!

What a relief it is to end a 4 game losing streak right?

Meanwhile, I had a chance to sit down with AirHogs closer, Big John Hunton. Check out this interview.

And then I caught up with him after he got his uniform on.

He’s a good guy, and we AirHogs fans should be glad he’s here. Just a great guy.

Now, would you like to know who gets my vote for the best AirHogs fan?

Nathan is a great kid, he just passed the first grade. He loves coming to QuikTrip Park to get autographs. It doesn’t have to be just AirHog autographs either. He just loves being able to get any and all autographs of his big league heroes, no matter what team they play for. I’ve been watching Nathan do this for a year now, and it warms my heart that kids still see big league ball players as heroes. I still believe there is something honest and pure in that notion. Hats off to Lil Nathan!  Check out his pictures after the jump.

A new sport I’m interested in, Lingerie Football League

I know there will be some ridicule here, but I am totally interested in Lingerie Football League.

I know what you are thinking, but I really am. Take a look at this clip:

Isn’t that some great action? I’ve sent off for my credentials to cover the games, wish me luck!

If you serve turkey testicles, they will come

Here is the most bizzare story of the day, from Ballpark Digest

The last two seasons should have been gravy time for the Sioux Falls Fighting Pheasants (independent; American Association) as the team set marks for wins. Instead, attendance is plunging after branding and concession changes. What can be done to stem the tide?

No doubt managing partner Gary Weckwerth thought he was opening a new chapter in Sioux Falls baseball after buying the team and changing the team name from Canaries to Fighting Pheasants. Along the way ballpark operations were overhauled, with Ovations brought in to run concessions, and manager Steve Shirley established a winning program on the field.

Instead of crowds swarming the Bird Cage, the opposite happened: attendance plummeted 35 percent last season to 1,922 per game, and it’s even lower this season, some 1,226 fans a game. (That number will rise in coming weeks after school lets out for the summer, though.) What went wrong?

Lots of little things, it seems. First, popular GM John Kuhn was let go. A former Goldklang Group employee and an indy-ball veteran, Kuhn brought many Veeckian touches to the ballpark, greeting fans at the gates and making his presence known throughout the game. He brought in some high-profile promotions along with some high-profile sponsors; he made headlines selling deep-fried turkey testicles, but did it with the backing of a major sponsor.

That can’t be good when you have to rely on turkey testicles to get people to come watch baseball.

***Breaking News*** Miami Heat “very disappointed” over Game 2 loss to Mavericks

In breaking news from USAToday, we are learning that the Miami Heat are “very disappointed” at losing Game 2 in Miami the other night.

“First of all, we let one go,” Heat guard Dwyane Wade said. “We let one slip away. We’re a very confident team going into the fourth quarter when we have the lead, whether it’s one point and obviously 15.
But just looking at the film, even watching on my own, just looking at the things you felt we could have done better as a team, the little mistakes we made that they made us pay for.”

I have to wonder if the Miami Heat ever thought that maybe they are too full of themselves? Nah, probably not.

Wake up call: You can’t win ‘em all

Well you can’t win every game right? You can’t win every series either. For the first time this season, the Grand Prairie Airhogs lost a series with an opponent.

From Airhogsbaseball.com:

The Grand Prairie AirHogs had runners on base in eight of nine innings on Saturday night, including runners in scoring position in seven frames. However, 13 men were left stranded on the bases and the AirHogs were only 3-for-16 with runners in scoring position, as the St. Paul Saints held on for a 5-4 win in front of 2,495 at QuikTrip Park, clinching the AirHogs’ first series loss of the 2011 season.

I had the chance to catch up with Coach Ricky VanAsselberg after the game and these were his comments:

The AirHogs have just had their 9 game winning streak snapped when this series started with the Saints, and now the AirHogs have lost 2 to these same Saints. Looking forward to a little payback tonight at QuikTrip Park for the last game in this series.

Of course the game was the main attraction this evening, but I think the 2500 fans still had a great time at the park. It always make me smile when I see the young kiddos enjoying themselves at a ballgame. I was able to get some photos of them.

Field of Dreams Little League team for 6-4-2011 at QuikTrip Park

I would imagine these little guys had a blast at the park. It was a big deal for them.

And let’s not forget the Grounds Crew and Sgt. Buddy keeping the field looking so good!

As always, it was a good game, and I had a blast at the old ball park.

After the game there was a fireworks show, and then I sort of captured the mood after it was all over and fans were leaving the park. We fans need to be out at QuikTrip Park every night, to witness things like this: See you there!

From ESPN’s Sports Science channel, an explanation of how Dirk Nowitzki is so successful at his jump fade away shot.

Impressive!
