Young’s walk-off homer lifts Rangers

Two-run eighth sets up dramatic finish against Royals

Michael Young led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a home run off reliever Kyle Farnsworth to give the Rangers a 6-5 victory over the Royals on Sunday.  

The Rangers trailed, 5-3, before rallying for two runs in the bottom of the eighth. The rally started with Andruw Jones slamming a double off the left-field wall against Royals reliever Ron Mahay. Michael Young led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a home run off reliever Kyle Farnsworth to give the Rangers a 6-5 victory over the Royals on Sunday.

Hank Blalock followed with a grounder at Royals first baseman Mike Jacobs, who fumbled it for an error. Nelson Cruz’s slow grounder to second scored one run and a two-out single by Chris Davis tied it up.

Rangers starter Vicente Padilla allowed five runs in five innings and now has a 9.64 ERA after three starts.

The Rangers took a 2-0 lead in the first off of Royals starter Kyle Davies, who walked four in the inning. Jacobs tied it up with a two-run home run in the top of the second but Ian Kinsler hit his fourth home run of the season in the bottom of the inning to give the Rangers a 3-2 lead. They managed just one more single until Jones’ double to start the eighth.
