Saturday Scattershooting (Labor Day Weekend Edition)

Aaahhh yeah, 3 days off for the weekend.  A time for grilling out hotdogs, going to the golf course, watching the time fly.

Just reading some interesting sports stories this morning.

NFL fines Lions’ Ndamukong Suh $7,500 for hit on Jake Delhomme. Wow, did you see this hit?

The No. 2 overall pick in April’s draft grabbed Delhomme’s face mask and twisted it, then wrapped his arms around the quarterback’s head and slammed him to the ground in the second quarter of last Saturday’s game.

Suh said later he didn’t know Delhomme had thrown the ball before he hit him.

“I was just going after the ball, and I had no clue that he had gotten rid of it,” he said.

And this is just pre-season! Holy moly, what’s he gonna do when the season starts?

Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg has Tommy John surgery.

You just had to wonder if this was going to happen huh?

Nationals rookie phenom Stephen Strasburg  had reconstructive elbow surgery Friday that could keep him out of the starting rotation until the 2012 season. Lewis Yocum performed the procedure in Inglewood, Calif., in which a piece of ligament was taken from the 22-year-old right-hander’s left leg and transplanted into his pitching elbow.

“Everything went very smoothly and the reports were very good,” Washington general manager Mike Rizzo said Friday night, before a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

“He’ll start his rehab in a couple of days and we’re very confident he will come back strong from this surgery,” Rizzo added. “I really feel this is just a blip in what is going to be an outstanding career for Stephen.”

They make it sound so automatic don’t they?

Hope you all have a great weekend. Stay safe out there.
